Once in a while, everyone needs to lie back and relax. Just to sleep and take a rest in sweet repose. Have a massage, enjoy oneself. The West-Bohemian Spa Triangle is just the perfect place for the regeneration of your soul and body.

Domestic and foreign guests alike have been coming to enjoy the local mineral springs for hundreds of years; the visitors’ book of the spa resorts include the names of monarchs such as the English king Edward VII, Napoleon III, famous composers such as F. Chopin and R. Wagner, writers such as J. W. Goethe, M. Twain and F. Kafka, or for example the esteemed Moravian-born founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. But there is more. You can also enjoy the rich cultural program, go for cycling, hiking and sightseeing trips, play tennis and golf, ride a horse, try water sports in summer and cross-country skiing in winter. Everything, in fact, that will make your life more enjoyable.

  • Spa Františkovy Lázně – or Franzensbad, a renowned spa resort with 21 mineral springs. An interesting urban reservation with a characteristic checkerboard layout, surrounded by large forests and forest parks.
  • Horní Slavkov – a mining city with a long history of tin mining. The first china manufactory was established here in the 18th century (Haas und Czjzek). A museum depicting the history of the town, mining, tin-mining and tin-processing and production of china.
  • Cheb – one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic. A Romanesque castle with a precious, late Romanesque chapel. Picturesque square and houses with characteristic gable roofs and half-timbered Špalíček. A view from the Black Tower.
  • Komorní Hůrka – the youngest volcano in Bohemia, which was active as late as in the Quaternary period, approximately one million years ago. The volcano was explored by J.W. Goethe; a plaque has been installed at the beginning of the exploration gallery in his honor.
  • Krásno – the grounds of the Vilém mine with a remarkable steam hoisting engine and a mining display. An interesting stone observation tower with an external helical stairway at Krásno Hill.
  • Kynžvart Castle – a spa town with a Neo-Classical castle set amidst a large English park, the former summer residence of the Austrian chancellor K. V. Metternich. A castle library with a collection of rare first editions and art prints, curiosity cabinet.
  • Loket – an urban reservation with an early Gothic castle with Renaissance adaptations. A display of glass art, china and book-binding, multimedia exhibition of instruments of torture in the dungeons.
  • Spa Mariánské Lázně – or Marienbad, the youngest spa in the West Bohemian Spa Triangle, offering more than one hundred spa springs. Impressive spa architecture, a golf course, an observation tower, a park of miniatures, a colonnade with a Singing Fountain.
  • Ostroh Castle (Seeberg) – a 12th century Romanesque castle with a Knight’s Hall, a smoke kitchen and dungeons. A display of Carlsbad china, ethnographic collections, interiors of 19th century burgher houses. A display of vernacular architecture in the vicinity of the castle.
  • SOOS National Nature Reserve – large peat bog and mineral black bog with so-called mud volcanoes. A nature trail along plank paths, a natural geological park and a museum of primeval animals with life-size models.
  • Vildštejn Castle – a restored Romanesque castle and the ruins of the Baroque castle in Skalná. An archeological exhibition about the history of the castle with the remains of the White Lady, who was bricked up alive in the castle.
