Opavské Slezsko also offers countless beauties of nature: The virgin forests and vast flatlands are ideal for hiking and cycling trips. You may also explore the exotic plants in the Nový Dvůr Arboretum botanical gardens. Art lovers will enjoy the region’s interesting museums or the medieval castle in Závada; technology fans should check out the windmill in Hlavnice with a small open-air museum of folk architecture, or the windmill in the nearby town of Choltice. The region was a favorite place of such historic personages as Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Lizst, and Niccolò Paganini.

• Opava – a lovely town with numerous historical sites, dominated by the Church of the Assumption, built in the Silesian Gothic style of brick facework. The typical skyline of the town is complemented by the Watchtower near the Neo-Renaissance building of the Opava Town Hall. The Silesian Land Museum is the oldest in the Czech Republic.
• Nový Dvůr u Opavy – a botanical garden with many foreign and domestic rare tree species, and greenhouses with subtropical and tropical plants from five continents.
• Budišov nad Budišovkou – a museum documenting the history of the mining and processing of clay shale, used in the construction of such buildings as the National Theater and the Týn Church in Prague, as well as Karlštejn Castle. A functioning mining tunnel in Staré Oldřůvky is open to the public.
• Hradec nad Moravicí Chateau –premises built in the Romantic style, with an Empire-style White Château and a Neo-Gothic Red Chateau, entrance gate, and the White Tower. Formerly a major cultural center, which hosted such prominent musicians as composers Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Lizst, or violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini.
• The Beech Walk – Lichnovsky Hunting Trail – the tourist trail runs through the gardens of Hradec nad Moravicí Château and the beautiful beech virgin woods with romantic scenery and fantastic views.
• Chateau Raduň – a chateau in the Empire style, surrounded by a vast landscape park. Interior furnishings come from the nearby chateau of Hradec nad Moravicí. There is a vast library with 16,000 volumes.
• Chateau Kravaře – the small chateau with a short guided tour is a gem of Silesian Baroque architecture. The chateau is surrounded by a vast landscape park, gradually turning into a forest park. One section of the park has been turned into a golf course.
• Hlučín – Darkovičky: System of Czechoslovak Fortifications from 1935-1938 – a large area northeast of the town of Hlučín, between the towns of Darkovičky and Hať. Includes the Alej infantry lodge, restored to its original shape from 1938, and other structures furnished with period weaponry and accoutrement.
• Hrabyně – Neo-Gothic Church of the Assumption with a panel painting of the Madonna; an important pilgrimage site. The Liberation Fight Memorial in Hrabyně with a World War Two exhibition commemorates the war tragedy which destroyed almost the entire village.
• The Silesian Aeroclub – the local club in Dolní Benešov – Zábřeh offers flying and parachuting classes as well as observatory flights.
• Bělá Trout Farm – a farm in the Rothschild Gamekeeper’s Lodge. You may catch your lunch yourself.
• The open-air museum of folk crafts and traditions in Bolatice – located in a traditional country house, the open-air museum offers an insight into the everyday peasant life in past centuries.
• Educational trails – the numerous trails will guide you through the unique natural sights of the region. The most popular are the Hvozdnice, Moravice and Hanuše trails.
