Zlín region

The region’s attractiveness lies both in its closeness to a large city and its beautiful, woody landscape, offering a number of leisure activities. Zlínsko will satisfy your every whim, should you choose hiking, biking, golf, tennis, horseback riding, a boat cruise on the Morava River, or car racing.

The city of Zlín itself is inextricably linked with the name of entrepreneur Tomáš Baťa. Thanks to the uniquely balanced collection of functionalist buildings, it attracts primarily admirers of modern architecture; but even history lovers will be satisfied.

Visitors should not miss the castle in Malenovice; the Gothic church in Tečovice; the old pilgrimage site in Štípa, or the romantic château in Lešná, located on the grounds of a famous zoo. After a day of sightseeing, you can find relaxation in the popular vacation resort near Otrokovice, or the famous Luhačovice spa.

  • Zlín – the place where Tomáš Baťa founded his shoemaking factory in 1894. His company built a number of modern functionalist structures, typical for their unplastered red brickwork and flat roofs. The Zlín skyscraper, also known as Jednadvacítka, designed by V. Karfík, was one of the first high-rise buildings in Europe.
  • Zlín Museums – the Museum of Southeast Moravia with an exhibition on traveling (Around Five Continents with Hanzelka and Zikmund), and an exhibition titled The Zlín Film Studios: From Advertising to Children’s Films. A remarkable museum of shoemaking.
  • Lešná Zoo – a vast zoological garden, divided according to geographical regions. The premises contain several restaurants, a children’s corner with domestic animals, and numerous playgrounds. Sightseeing train rides available.
  • Chateau Lešná – a Romantic late-19th century chateau, located directly on the zoo grounds. Sumptuous interior furnishings with carved wall panelings, coffered ceilings, period furniture, crystal chandeliers and large painting, porcelain, and silverware collections.
  • Luhačovice – the largest Moravian spa town, used as a spa since the 17th century. The spa buildings have a distinctive Art Nouveau design by architect D. Jurkovič, influenced by Wallachian folk architecture. Mineral springs, colonnade, hiking trails.
  • Malenovice Castle – a Renaissance-Baroque castle, housing the exhibitions of the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín. Archeological collections; exhibition documenting defunct castles in the Zlín region, traditional crafts, and a history of orienteering contests.
  • Napajedla – the premises of an original stud farm near the château gardens, established in 1886. The most important racehorse stud in the Czech Republic, which breeds about 60 foals every year.
  • Otrokovice – the Štěrkoviště water reservoir, surrounded by a vacation resort with a water slide and accompanying facilities, including sports equipment rentals.
  • Baťa Channel – a tourist waterway on the Morava River; a technological and natural monument. The channel is navigable for 65 kilometers, from Otrokovice to Petrov, in the adjacent river sections and around the town of Hodonín. Boat rentals, regular boat cruises.
  • Štípa – a pilgrimage site with a Baroque Church of the Virgin Mary, and a statuette of the Virgin with miraculous powers. A windmill with preserved technological equipment, the only preserved monument of its kind in the Zlín region.
