Letovice Castle

The first visitor season of Letovice castle begins with a tour called “The Course of Reconstruction”. The grounds of the castle are presently undergoing complete reconstruction in preparation for opening in future seasons. Visitors can still walk through the entire castle, though this will not be possible in the future.

For the time being, the tour of the castle is not guided, though visitors can get an information brochure. Visitors can inspect the ground, first and second floors of the castle. There is also a 500 m² roofed riding hall in the castle and several other premises, a new restaurant, and a gallery. The courtyard of the riding hall encompasses shops with souvenirs and antiques.

Concerts and various cultural performances have also been planned. Every month, there will be a big fencing event with a period fair. Weekend programmes include fencing performances, with horse-riding, archery or axe-hurling for visitors.

Tours, excursions, weddings, parties, cultural events, seminars, and exhibitions can all be organised in the grounds.

From the History of the Castle
The original 13th century castle was destroyed by the Hussites at the beginning of the 15th century. At the end of the 17th century, the core of the residence was reconstructed into an early-baroque castle. The construction changes continued after a fire in 1724. In the second half of the 20th century, the castle was used for various purposes but was not maintained. Under the restitution process, the castle was returned to Count Alexander Kálnoky, who sold it in 2004 to Bohumil Vavříček from Boskovice. The present owner has been working hard on reconstruction, intending to preserve this monument for future generations. The ultimate objective is to furnish the interior of the castle and make it available to the public.
