The Chateau at Polná

The interior of Polná Chateau, the result of renaissance and baroque reconstructions of an original 13th century gothic castle, now houses permanent exhibitions of the Museum of Vysočina. There is a guided tour of the second floor for visitors, which includes the refurbished “Hall of the Natives”. Also newly opened is a depository and exhibition entitled “Legionnaires in the Polná Region”.

Furthermore, the chateau offers two permanent tours. Visitors taking the first tour can inspect the ground floor of the chateau and the dungeon, where they can see the lapidarium (sculpture collection), pharmacy “At the Black Eagle”, merchant’s store, and old craft industries. The guide will also show visitors the foundations of the original walls of the castle. The second tour allows tourists to inspect three halls on the first floor – the Armorial Hall, Dietrichstein’s Hall and Kunštát’s Hall. The tour continues with an exhibition of furniture. In the right wing of the chateau, there are exhibitions organised by the museum.

The museum’s current exhibition represents a tour of Polná’s old school, documenting the history of education from the second half of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. Visitors can inspect classrooms, teachers’ rooms and teachers’ apartments.
